Howdy, I came across this data sonification podcast called Loud Numbers, created by Duncan Geere and Miriam Quick. Data sonification is the process of turning data into sound. What’s unique about what Duncan and Miriam do is they turn the sounds into music. The episode I’m sharing is called Boom & Bust and tells the story of the US economy since the late 1960s. The roller coaster ride of expansion and contraction is heard through a UK jungle track. One bar of track time represents one financial quarter in the data. This unique and novel approach to sharing complex, nuanced information to a broader audience is deeply inspiring and it makes a subject like economics more accessible. I hope you enjoy the piece.Your favorite finance friend,

5. 🤓 A Bookkeeping Thing Do You Need a Tax Projection (HYG Original) 🤓
6. 👥 Scammers Are Using Fake Job Ads to Steal People’s Identities (ProPublica) Damn, these scammers are ruthless. “One fake job application site uses Spirit Airlines’ photos, text, font and color code. The phony site asks applicants to upload a copy of both sides of their driver’s license at the outset of the process and sends them an email seeking more information from a web address that resembles Spirit’s, with an extra “i” (spiiritairline.com).”
7. 💲 The Nothingness of Money (More To That) “Wisdom is the co-existence of contradictory truths, and money is the clearest example of this. We must internalize its importance while also recognizing its pointlessness. We must operate within the story of money while also understanding that it’s a fairy tale.”
8. ⚠ The Hidden Dangers of 'Buy Now, Pay Later' Apps (Wired) ““Buy Now Pay Later” is a misnomer. These are short-term loans paid back in installments, with terms that can vary dramatically. Some include late fees but not interest; others charge interest. Some report to credit bureaus and some don’t. Consumer advocates say the variety of offerings can be especially confusing for younger users with little credit history or financial literacy.”
