A brief look back over the month just gone, and what’s on the horizon…


Sally Madge: Nowhere Better Than This Place
Currently showing at Newcastle Contemporary Art, this retrospective exhibition celebrates the work of renowned north-east contemporary artist Sally Madge (1946-2020). Her rich multimedia output embraces ceramics, painting, sculpture, collage, film, installation and performance in countless contributions and collaborations in solo and group shows at home and abroad.

The show will run from January 28th to February 25th.
Opening hours are Thursday - Saturday between 12 and 5pm.

Feminist Practices: What do we know about how Sally made work?
Tuesday 21st February, 6.30-8pm
A Conversation exploring how women artists make work between and about our domestic and professional spaces with Dr. Particia Zakreski, Senior Lecturer in Victorian Literature and Culture, Exeter University and Dr. Caroline Gausden, writer and discursive curator based in Glasgow.

Wor Seahorse Spectacle 
As part of Moving Parts upcoming Puppetry Festival, studio holder Chloe Rodham has been involved in facilitating workshops to make giant seahorse puppets, which will be paraded through Newcastle as part of the Puppet Parade on April 8th! 

The workshops will continue to take place over the next couple of months, and you can find out more and even get involved yourself HERE >

Reception Exhibition
We moved from 2022 to 2023 with a glorious display of artworks by our building community adoring our reception area.
This exhibition offered an eclectic mix of work created within the High Bridge Works walls - and provided a lovely backdrop for our building Christmas party to boot!

Altogether Studio Redesign 
Having recently celebrated a fantastic win for Brand Curation of the Year at the North East Marketing Awards, it's good news all round for Altogether as they now enjoy an exciting revamp of their studio, designed for them by Studio Kind.

Fridge of Sisyphus 2
This exhibition featuring a film by Roman Vaughan-Williams of NCA and Susie Davies of Kaleidoscope was recently screened at the Newbridge Project. The show was well received, and we always love seeing members of our building community collaborate!

Gresham Wooden Horse 
In November and December Newcastle Contemporary Art hosted Gresham Wooden Horse, an exhibition co-created over several years by artist Isabel Lima, with residents and community stakeholders in the neighbourhood of Gresham, Middlesbrough. You can read more about this exhibition HERE >

Studio Holder Spotlight
Adam Pointer
This month we welcome a new artist to the shared painting studio.
Adam's work takes a playful look inside the mind - capturing the: manic anxiety, shifting emotion and colourful chaos that lies within.
