The last two weeks have been full with much of the bustle expected in December: Christmas concerts, parties, trips, final exams and much anticipation of the Christmas break. In all of this, we pause and thank God for His guidance and grace over this first semester of the year. We give thanks that He is Emmanuel - God with us. He is with us in the lesson planning and long division, in the rush to get ready for school and the recitation of poetry, in the sharps and flats, in the strokes of art, and yes, even in the surge of seasonal viruses. Below is an Advent reflection from Philip Yancey's book, The Jesus I Never Knew. Have a blessed Christmas and New Year and enjoy this final issue of the Warrior Weekly for 2025!
One world consists of hills and lakes and barns and politicians and shepherds watching over their flocks by night. The other consists of angels and sinister forces and, somewhere out there, places called heaven and hell. One night in the cold, in the dark, among the wrinkled hills of Bethlehem, those two worlds came together at a dramatic point of intersection. God, who knows no boundaries, took on the shocking confines of a baby's skin, the ominous restraints of mortality.
"He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation," an apostle would later write:"He is before all things, and in him all things hold together." But the few eyewitnesses on Christmas night saw none of that. They saw an infant struggling to work never-before-used lungs.
Could it be true, this Bethlehem story of a Creator descending to be born on one small planet? If so, it is a story like no other. Never again need we wonder whether what happens on this dirty little tennis ball of a planet matters to the rest of the universe. Little wonder a choir of angels broke out in spontaneous song, disturbing not only a few shepherds but the entire universe.

Take This Show on the Road
This is the second year of a new tradition for the preschool: having the students ride in a SRCS school bus from the preschool to the church on the way to their Christmas concert. It was a small ride that brought great excitement to an already special event.

First Grade Enjoys Christmas Trip to Ebert Farm
It would not be Christmas at SRCS without the 24th annual Christmas Trip to Mrs. Ebert's farm! The students and chaperones enjoyed a day full of crafts, snacks, cider, hay rides, horse rides, caroling, games, and visits from the chickens, pig, and donkey. The students were able to take home several hand-made Christmas decorations and memories that will last a lifetime.

Students Welcome Christmas with a Service of Lessons and Carols
The Grammar school students performed their beautiful annual worship service of Lessons and Carols. Donning red satin robes and carrying the symbolic light of Advent, grades Kindergarten through 5th sang the classic Christmas hymns and offered scripture readings which all pointed to Jesus, the Incarnate Son of God. Special recognition to Mrs. Couric, who accompanied on piano, and Mr. Bogart, who directed the service.

Ugly Sweaters Everywhere!
Last Friday SRCS students, teachers, and staff participated in the annual Ugly Christmas Sweater Day. From Grinches, to festive cats and dogs, to gaudy displays of shimmer and sequins, signs of Christmas were sparkling from every corner of campus.

Save the Bubbles! Learning does not always necessitate elaborate instruments and equipment. Mrs. Goforth's environmental science class used soap, wands and hula hoops to perform an experiment relating to the population dynamics of species. The students observed bubbles (which act as models of animal populations) and constructed different types of survivorship curves, subjecting the bubbles to different stressors. This exercise allowed the students to determine the pattern of mortality, which is a key part of understanding conservation strategies.

Science Class Experiments with Egg Drops
Over a few class periods, Mr. Eckart's science students teamed up to apply the laws of motion and ancillary physical principles they've learned in an Egg Roll Project. They are given slim material parameters in which they may use up to 14 toilet paper cores and 30 cm of Scotch tape to safely land a grade A large egg to the concrete one story below the science classroom window. Attempts are judged on cost/safety rating, engineered aesthetics, cost/gram, and savings (and if their egg survives, of course!). They must submit proposals and technical blueprints before "purchasing" their materials, build them, and, finally, watch their projects in action on Egg Drop Day. This year, between the two sections, there was a 24% egg survival rate. Congrats to all those whose eggs made it to see another day!
