Deck the Halls with Glue and Glitter

The preschoolers welcomed their parents to a special event: "Deck the Halls." Parents and students work together on Christmas and winter crafts to decorate the classrooms. This event gives students the opportunity to spend time with their moms and dads and share a glimpse of their preschool world.
Library Welcomes a Surprise Reader (with an extra small heart)

The library is the perfect place for the Grinch! After all, he doesn't like noise, Noise, NOISE!!! Last week the Grinch visited our library and read his famous tale, How the Grinch Stole Christmas to our grammar classes. This is a tradition the students look forward to each year. Of course, the Grinch realizes that Christmas doesn't come from a store, but perhaps "means a little bit more", which is why he shares that Christ is the reason for the season. Thank you, Mr. Grinch!
The Great Divide

Last week, second graders were learning multiplication and division using equal groups, arrays, and the commutative property. Whiteboards and counters offer two ways for students to work the problems.
New Members Inducted into the Beatrix Potter Society

Congratulations to the newest members of the SRCS Beatrix Potter Society. In order to be inducted into the SRCS Beatrix Potter Society, students must read all 23 books of the Beatrix Potter Tales collection.

Though born in the city of London, Beatrix Potter soon became a lover of nature, animals, and the outdoors. Her family frequently visited the Lake District on the Scottish border. She would often bring small animals home from holiday and soon had quite a collection of mice, birds, and rabbits, among other creatures. Over time, she started creating artistic story letters for children she knew. Her early experiments with writing blossomed into a successful literary career. Published in 1902, The Tale of Peter Rabbit is her first and most recognized book. Potter eventually moved to the countryside she so dearly loved, dedicating her life to writing, drawing, farming, and conservation. Upon her death, she left 4,000 acres of land to the National Trust. Oh What Fun it is to Ride in a Warrior Bus Today!

In the spirit of the season, SRCS bus drivers have decked their buses with lights, tinsel, ornaments, and art to add some jolly to the bus ride! The buses are outfitted in the spirit of the classic Christmas storybook characters of the Grinch and Rudolph, the Red-nosed Reindeer.

CLEP Exams and College Credits

Most students looking for ways to earn college credit in high school turn to the typical routes—Dual Enrollment or Advanced Placement courses. However, CLEP exams offer a third way students can earn credit. CLEP stands for the College-Level Examination Program, and CLEP exams are used to determine a student’s level of proficiency in certain subjects. Students who earn passing scores on CLEP exams have the potential to earn at least 3 college credits in introductory courses. CLEP exams are widely accepted at many colleges and universities. Students who have studied a subject at an honors level and have a strong knowledge base should consider taking an exam. A prime example would be a student with four years of foreign language. The College Board offers a variety of free resources to help prepare for the exams. Further information about CLEP exams, including fees and schedules, can be found here.
