Welcome to the Forest City Gallery Newsletter!
Spring has sprung!
FCG is bounding into this season's fresh foliage with important behind-the-scenes work. We have been very busy looking toward our ever-changing future and thinking deeply about how best to serve our inspiring community.
We are excitedly digging into all of the wonderful applications that you submitted for our annual call. Thank you for all your hard work and big dreams! While we set up our jury for adjudicating next year's main-gallery exhibitions, please take some time to look over our upcoming programming.
If you missed last week's Hear Here, A/V Nights 2, or Sebastian Di Trolio and Joe Heindl's Cameraless Animation workshop, you've already missed too much. Don't make the same mistake again! Set aside the evening of May 28th for our next opening reception with a local favourite!
In other news, our current exhibitions are coming to a close. Just a couple days left to check them out! Please keep in mind that the gallery will be closed May 15–28 while we turn over exhibitions.

Michelle Wilson Forest City Gallery, 1025 Elias St. May 28 – July 23, 2026
Opening Reception: Thursday, May 28, 2026 @ 7–9pm
Forest City Gallery is pleased to announce its next exhibition with local artist, Michelle Wilson. In this exhibition, Michelle investigates an unexpected root of colonial rule: the green house. As a form of environmental control, the green house was a crucial tool for transporting plants and people around the globe. Collaborating with members of her family and sharing their history, Wilson merges personal anecdotes with critiques of the British empire, the trade of exotic flora, and the abduction of children—an incisive commentary on interconnectedness and power.
Come celebrate Michelle's new work with us on Thursday, May 28th between 7–9pm!
In addition to the exhibition and opening reception, Michelle will be hosting a plant medicine workshop along with Candace Dube, owner of Be Well Botanics on July 4th. Keep your eyes peeled for future details in our newsletters and social media posts!

Final days to see our current exhibitions!
If you haven't had the chance to see these powerhouse exhibitions, you better run, not walk. Wednesday and Thursday are the final days to catch Ioana Dragomir's very very very and E Okutan's disobedience. Wednesday we are open 12–5 and Thursday we give a little extra for those of you tied up in regular working hours—come on by until 7pm.
Ioana's exhibition has been lauded as one of our best, ever. Visitors have commented on the warmth of the installation and the surprisingly welcoming sensation of removing one's shoes before walking over the papered gallery floor. Ioana's consideration of Virginia Woolf's relation to her sister, Vanessa Bell, and lover, Vita Sackville-West, is expressed in a variety of mediums from textiles and woodworking to drawing and found objects.
E, this year's AJE Feature Award winner, compliments Ioana's subtly with bold iconography and biological experiments. Can you guess which artwork is made of milk? This exhibition explores symbolism around bodies in disagreement, even warfare, with identity. Just as mediumistically expansive as our main-gallery exhibition, this one is well worth a visit. |

Rules of Composition for Photography with Natali Bravo
Saturday May 23rd 1 - 4pm Free
In this workshop you’ll learn the essential rules of composition that will take your photography to the next level. We’ll explore key techniques like the rule of thirds, leading lines, framing, and balancing elements within the frame to create visually compelling images. We’ll use the gallery and surrounding area outside to practice different framing techniques. Throughout this workshop you will have the opportunity to participate in hands-on photo based exercises with guided collective feedback.
Perfect for beginners and those looking to refine their skills, this session will help you understand how to arrange your subjects in a way that enhances the story of your image.
Materials Required: Participants are encouraged to bring a Camera - either a DSLR or a phone camera, that can be used throughout this workshop. If you do not have access to a camera, there is equipment available for anyone who wants to participate but does not have access to a phone or camera. We ask that you let us know in advance so we can make sure one is available by emailing collaboratory@forestcitygallery.com
Facilitated by Natali Bravo, who is a portrait photographer based in London, Ontario. She is committed to supporting the local community by capturing live music, local events, and meaningful moments for families and local artists. An enthusiastic part of London’s creative community, Natali studied photography at Lambton College and Fanshawe College, where she developed a strong foundation in visual storytelling.
