If you have walked around campus lately, you've felt the unmistakable crunch of acorns under foot, a sure sign that Thanksgiving break is upon us. We have so much to be grateful for, including God's faithful provision for our school and each student, teacher, and family that has sacrificed so that the mission of providing and receiving excellent Biblical education continues to be a reality at SRCS. We join the psalmist in declaring, "Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever!" (107:1). Enjoy this Thanksgiving issue of the Warrior Weekly!

Dear Acorn,
I feel you there a tickle at my twig tips,
a plump promise against my rough bark.
Your whole life ahead of you and weeks till you fall.
Take a good look around, Acorn. Drink in the view.
The next stop is earth. Then years upon years until you see the sky this high again.
I'll be waiting, Oak
-Joyce Sidman Dear Acorn, (Love, Oak): Letter Poems to Friends

Balloons Overhead
Mrs. King's preschool class read Melissa Sweet's book, Balloons over Broadway. The story features the life and work of Tony Sarg, an imaginative and self-taught immigrant, who invented the first balloons used in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade. Students then made their own creative balloon characters to fly over the preschool playground. To hear the story read aloud, click here.

A Voyage of Faith
Kindergarteners studied the Pilgrims and their trip to America. As a final project, they built ships from egg cartons, coffee stirrers and paper. As their homemade boats set off on their maiden voyages, the students witnessed the challenges of seafaring such as wind speeds and directions, head winds, and ocean currents. They now have a greater appreciation of the hardships that faced the early pilgrim settlers.

Give Us a Break!
In science, the second graders have been learning how X-rays can help detect broken bones. They did guided drawings of their hands. Using shading to create the same effects that appear on X-ray imaging, they highlighted the bones and left the surrounding tissue darker. X-rays were discovered accidentally in Bavaria, in 1985, by professor of physics Wilhelm Roentgen. Unsure what to call the mysterious rays, he called them "X-rays", a name that remains to our present day. Roentgen went on to win a Nobel Prize in physics for his discovery. Paint Me a Landscape
K-4th grade grammar students recently studied the master artist, Frederic Remington, and produced desert landscapes inspired by his work. Remington was an American artist who traveled to the West, painting the beautiful scenery he encountered. The students used pastel chalk to produce their works of art.

From the Advisor's Desk Consider this…
We are at the point in the year when most seniors have submitted their college applications and are awaiting acceptance letters. For some students, once their letters have been received, the decision on where to enroll is easy. For others, it may not be as clear.
In addition to examining the cost of attendance and available academic programs, students may also consider location, size, four-year graduation rates, clubs, intramurals, or even football teams to help determine the right choice. At Seven Rivers, we want families to consider an additional factor: a church community. What opportunities does a college or university have for thriving college ministries? Are there Bible-preaching churches close to campus? What spiritual resources are available to help freshmen build a trusted community? The temptation to consider only what's "practical" exists, but we want our kids to desire more. A quick Google search or a browsing of the college’s website should help to answer these questions. Let’s encourage our students to build their foundation upon the solid rock of Christ. Need some help? Email knelson@sevenrivers.org
