This is Me!

The PK3 students had much fun exploring self-portraits during their “Draw My Face” activity! Each child noticed unique features—eyes, hair, freckles, and big smiles—while learning where each feature belongs on the face. They created wonderful drawings that capture their personalities.
The Sky is Falling!

Last week, the kindergarteners read the folk tale, Henny Penny, which tells of a naive hen who unwittingly leads several of her animal friends into the burrow of a crafty and hungry fox. Students made puppets to re-enact the story with partners. They learned that foolishness has consequences and that one should think twice before following others into bad situations.
Can You Hear Me Know?

In science class, the second grade has been studying Alexander Graham Bell. A prolific inventor, he is most known for the telephone, which he patented in 1876. Bell is also much admired amongst the deaf community. Bell's wife and mother were partially deaf. His father taught elocution to deaf students, and Bell himself eventually became an educator of the Deaf.

2nd grader Wiley Lowe brought in an antique phone so his classmates could appreciate how much telephones have evolved. Coach Simonson dropped in just in time to answer classmate Lawson's call. Her message was, "It's time for P.E.!"
Good Times in Third Grade Math

The third graders started learning more about multiplication by playing a math game to help refresh their memory of the times tables. The students drew cards and rolled dice to create a multiplication problem. The person with the greatest product won the round.
A Labor of Love

Thanks to everyone who helped with Little Warrior Night. We had a great turnout! A special shoutout to the middle school and high school students who volunteered to paint faces and worked for two and half hours straight!
But God Meant It For Good

The freshman Bible class has been studying the life of Joseph, found in Genesis chapters 37-50. Each student answered a question from the text, which they then shared with the others. They learned how God's sovereignty can be seen in Joseph's life and how He used a series of undesirable circumstances to save not only Joseph's family, but the future of His people. The focus of this year is helping the students study the Bible to see how God always keeps His Covenant.

Questions to Ask a Financial Aid Counselor

In the search for financial aid, most students skip a crucial step. Colleges and universities themselves often offer students opportunities for financial aid. Students and families can think of levels of financial aid as tiers, with FAFSA (federal aid) at the top. For Florida students, Bright Futures (state aid) comes next. After that, colleges and universities should be asked about their assistance. Finally, local scholarships and scholarship search sites should be comsidered.

What questions shoud you ask a college or univerity financial aid counselor?
  • What is the full cost of attendance for a student attending your college/university?
  • What additional aid opportunities does the college/university offer to incoming freshman? When are the deadlines?
  • Are students required to reapply to keep a scholarship, or does it automatically renew each year?
  • For renewable scholarships, what requirements must be met each year to keep the scholarship?
  • Do outside scholarships impact a student's aid package from your institution?
  • Is there an appeals process if the aid package does not meet my demonstrated needs?
  • Are there employment opportunities available to students on your campus?
  • How is financial aid distributed from your college/university?
  • What is the average amount of debt students graduate with from your college/university?
  • Do you have any other resources you recommend for securing additional financial aid?
