Tyne & Wear Music/Youth Collectivism from the 1980s and beyond
Gateshead Music Collective are working with Newcastle Contemporary Art to create an exhibition and series of events to celebrate the legacy of youth-led music collectives in the North East of England.

Exploring the legacy of the Tyne & Wear Music Collectives that started in the 1980s, this exhibition features archival material from DIY collectives and venues that grew out of the disenchantment that follow rapid de-industrialisation.

There will be an opening event on Saturday 18th November, 4-7pm.
Reynols 30th Anniversary Exhibition
This month and next, the reception of High Bridge Works will host an exhibition celebrating the 30th anniversary of experimental Argentinian band Reynols.

Expect a deep dive into the archival documentation of the group featuring photographs, artwork and ephemera from throughout their years...
Presenting physical artefacts from collectors and enthusiasts around the world, the show will give a glimpse into the bands unique and esoteric discography.

This exhibition has been organised by Newcastle Contemporary Art.
Originals Newcastle
This month, Newcastle Contemporary Art was transformed as it played host to Originals Newcastle. Presented by adidas SPEZIAL, the exhibition offered a comprehensive retrospective and contemporary exhibition by Adidas Originals in partnership with END.

The event featured a mixture of archival and contemporary footwear, including limited edition releases, signed personal pairs from the likes of Stormzy, Liam Gallagher and Noel Gallagher, Run DMC, Lily Allen, Ian Brown and more.
Artists in Residence at NCA
In exciting news for the building, the inaugural artists in residence, Kuamen and Antonin Gerson spent September with us, upstairs at Newcastle Contemporary Art.

As an artist Kuamen aims to create spaces for dialogue with the oppressed people from the housing projects he came from. His interdisciplinary practice investigates social behaviours and injustices from his multi-ethnic minority standpoint.

Based in Brussels working in both France and Belgium, Antonin is an artist, curator and musician. Very sensitive to the noises that surround him Gerson has cultivated a sound dimension as the common thread of his work.

The residency culminated in a one night only public event. You can read more about the residency, and keep up to date with gallery events on the NCA website.
Hazel Plater: The Re-Emergence
Through September and October the High Bridge Works reception was filled with street photography by Hazel Plater. Following the Covid-19 pandemic, Plater returned to the streets of Newcastle upon Tyne to record the re-emergence of people into the public space.

The show was well attended, and included events with the artist such as a guided photo-walk through the city. Exhibition organised by Newcastle Contemporary Art.
Kejie Lin: A Mind's Garden
This August saw the NCA gallery transformed into an oasis of calm for A Mind's Garden, a solo exhibition by Canada-based Chinese artist & landscape designer Kejie Lin. The work captures the serene and enchanting scenes of the artists garden as a sanctuary.

This exhibition was organised by Newcastle Contemporary Art in collaboration with the Confucius Institute at Newcastle University, and curated by Yuluo Anita Wei.

You can see examples of the work from the exhibition on the NCA website.
Jeans for Genes Day
In September High Bridge Works got involved with Jeans for Genes, raising money for young people living with a genetic condition. See below a selection of our building staff and studio holders sporting their denim for a good cause!

You can find out more, including how to donate on the Jeans for Genes website.
