Dear <<First Name>>,

Hope everyone had a super Thanksgiving.

The snow has fallen and brings thoughts of Maple Season! We will be having our training day February 19th in the lodge starting at 9:00. Please attend to refresh your skills, and to sign up for school dates, and times.

We also have our Annual Membership Meeting on January 22nd, doors open at 4:45. There will be a bison meal served. There will be an election for filling the vacated board seats (3).

All the best,
Carl Bujanowski, President
Highlights from October Board Meeting
  • DNR update: DNR staff and some volunteers re-painted the large pumpkin signs for Fall Fest. The Party in the Prairie: Seed Collection was held and it went well. The was a large Scouts BSA camp-out held at the center where approximately 220 scouts camped in tents. Center staff are working on winter shut-down processes. Snapshot Wisconsin is a partnership project to monitor wildlife year-round using a
statewide network of trail cameras. https://dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/research/projects/snapshot . Steven
reports that the project is launching a network of snow gauges and thermometers to monitor weather
conditions. The MacKenzie Center will be a site for this new monitoring.
  • Discussed the Fall Fest items.
  • Discussed the Maple Fest which will be in April.
  • Discussed about the buffalo blanket that was donated by Jon Fries.
  • Plus more.
Next meeting is December 9th at 6 pm. Contact Carl if you would like to attend the meeting via zoom.
Who is Harley MacKenzie?

In 1934, Mr. MacKenzie helped found the Wisconsin Conservation Congress, which is an advisory council to the state DNR Board. He also was an organizer of the Association of Midwest Fish and Game Commissioners and served as its president. It was in 1934, too, that MacKenzie merged several game operations into a single conservation center and game farm in Poynette. The facility has expanded to include nature study and environmental education and, in 1971, was renamed the MacKenzie Environmental Center.
