Spring bird migration is in full swing and BLC has a way that you can witness this amazing natural occurrence! Take advantage of our weekly bird walks led by expert local birder JoJo Bradbury at the Creekside West Trail on the Spring Creek Nature Trail. This easy walk provides a mix of habitat types, with open ponds and forested areas. With a changing climate bird populations have been decreasing so learning about birds and the habitats that support them is knowledge you can use!

Community Action Alert!

We need your help to stop a proposed development in one of the most flood-prone areas in the Houston region. The Scarborough 5300+ acre floodplain development, which is upstream from Lake Houston between Spring Creek and the San Jacinto West Fork. Experts warn that if this land is developed, it would be like “aiming a firehose at Humble and Kingwood.”

This is a critical moment for our community.

Mark your calendars for our last monthly guided hike of the season at Lake Creek Preserve on Saturday, May 16th! Discover diverse ecosystems and unique terrains on this guided, moderately easy ~1 mile loop through Lake Creek Preserve!

Registration is open for May, so secure your spot today!

Hikes will pause during June and August but resume in September.

Explore Deer Park Prairie

Deer Park Prairie is having an open house on Saturday, May 30th! This ecological preserve is one of the most biodiverse, remnant

coastal-tallgrass-prairies remaining in Texas!

Join staff and volunteers from the Houston Chapter of Native Prairies Association of Texas to visit this rare conservation site, and learn

more about the native plants and wildlife that call this prairie home. Events will begin early in the morning with prairie hikes, and continue

after sunset with mothing.
