Full assessment + action plan in place, and..
3 Months later
Mr D didn’t exactly spring up out of his chair
BUT he stood on his own and walked into clinic.
Gone were the crutches
AND he was moving more freely.
Importantly he told me he'd..
Pedalled '7 to 8 minutes on the exercise bike most days'
Added 10x squats, unsupported, most days as well
Dropped another 7kg, down to 95kg bodyweight..
That's general, specific strength + bodyweight, right there..
A Man with a Plan
There was a triple win to those stronger legs:.
He’d come off the crutches
That helped his back as he stood a bit straighter.
And most days he could walk upstairs step over step..
..which beats one at a time. Compounding those strength gains.
Mr D still had his support team around him..
Generalist
Cardiologist
Back surgeon
Targets 🎯
Key were his targets..
Bodyweight 85kg is in his sights
E-bike with his son late summer.
We then went a step further + talked about..
What that goal looked like
Perhaps 10 miles, or perhaps 1 hour
Writing down the time spent on the bike /week
Music to my ears 🎵
Surgery avoided
Or, at least, held in reserve,
Firmly in the back pocket.
We opted for flexible follow up in ~6 months
(with x-ray film on arrival if worse)
And all that was left to do was ask for Mr D’s consent to share his inspiring story (thank you from me)
If he's reading this, I wish him the very best of luck 👏 👏
