Thank you, Breanna!

After five years of dedicated service to the Town on the Select Board (and three years on the Planning Board before that), Breanna Pinkham Bebb is resigning, effective February 9, to accept a position as a Waldo County Commissioner. She was appointed by Gov. Mills to finish the term of the late Betty Johnson.

We thank Breanna for her thoughtful leadership and wish her all the best with this new public service role. Please thank her next time you see her around town.

Municipal Elections

Municipal elections this year will be held on Tuesday, June 9, at the same time as the state and congressional primaries.

Due to Breanna Pinkham Bebb's resignation, there will be elections for TWO Select Board seats. One one-year term to fill the vacancy and one regular three-year term. There will also be one School Board position on the ballot.

New Solar Array

At the Special Town Meeting on Wednesday, January 21, 61 voters turned out for a robust, healthy, and detailed discussion about the proposed solar array. After more than 30 minutes of discussion, the voters unanimously approved the solar array at the old sand shed site (216 Beech Hill Road).

The Select Board intends to pay for the array entirely with donations and grants, and has already raised more than $22,000 towards the $117,500 project cost.

Property Revaluation Informational Session

The Town held a public Q&A session with a representative from the Property Tax Division of Maine Revenue Services (MRS) on January 21. The video of that Q&A is available on the Town's revaluation web page.

Maine Revenue Services also publishes a brochure that explains some of the basics of the revaluation process.

The owner of the company performing the revaluation, Rob Duplisea of RJD Appraisals, spoke at a Select Board meeting in November. Notes from that conversation have been posted on the Town's revaluation web page.

The revaluation is currently underway, and we expect to have it completed later this spring. Taxpayers will receive a notice in the mail with their new valuation.

Town Office Project Update

The Town held a public Q&A session with the latest updates on the Town Office and Community Center project. A video of that event is on the project's web page. Town officials are working with the USDA to ensure that the project is fully compliant with federal environmental and procurement rules. Once that review is complete, the Town will be able to put the project out to bid. We hope to start construction later this summer.

Dog License Renewal

Dog license renewals were due by December 31, and late fees of $75 and up per dog started on February 1. Please contact Robin Coombs at 338-3819x3 or deputyclerk@northportmaine.org with any questions.

Town Sand Shed

The Town's sand shed on Beech Hill Road, between Eagle Drive and Garden Way, is available for personal use for Town residents only. Please limit yourself to two five-gallon buckets per winter.

Upcoming Meetings

The Select Board meets on the second and fourth Monday at 6:15pm at the Town Office. Agendas and minutes are available on the website. The Zoning Board of Appeals will meet on Wednesday, February 25, at 6:00pm at the Town Office. The ZBA will be reviewing an application for a variance at 190 Pitcher Road (Tax Map U17-7) to build a cottage 24' tall in the shoreland zone.
