Footprint Project's Hurricane Melissa Response - October 28, 2025
Dear Partners, Supporters and Friends,

Hurricane Melissa made landfall today as the worst storm in Jamaica’s history (since records began), and the fifth most intense Atlantic storm on record. Catastrophic infrastructure collapse across the island is expected. 175mph winds and historic rainfall will leave millions of people without power and communications.

Yesterday, our staff and volunteers in New Orleans spent all day preparing a shipment of over 150 portable solar and battery power stations valued at over $100k for rapid donation. Our Senior Operations Manager left our New Orleans warehouse at 5 AM this morning and just arrived in Jacksonville, Florida this afternoon, where the equipment will be loaded onto a cargo plane for shipment to Jamaica as soon as the airport is cleared to accept deliveries.
Meanwhile, our pre-positioned mobile microgrid equipment in the Caribbean is being coordinated for deployment from both Puerto Rico and Barbados.

We are working closely with our regional response partners at the World Food Programme, Direct Relief, LIFT Non-Profit Logistics, and the Jamaica Renewable Energy Association to ensure our sustainable response technologies reach and support communities most in need on the island.

As we continue to coordinate logistics, plan our operations, and monitor the impacts of the storm, we are hoping for the best but preparing for the worst.
How you can help:
  • Donate: Cash donations help support designated staff time, logistics, equipment installation and maintenance, and backfill of equipment donations.
  • Equipment (In-Kind) Donations: we are currently prioritizing turn-key renewable power, water and shelter technologies for rapid shipment. Loose product and components will be staged for long-term recovery. Contact give@footprintproject.org
  • Volunteers: We are not planning to deploy volunteers at this time. If you’d like to be considered for future deployments, please fill out our volunteer intake form at https://www.footprintproject.org/volunteer

Thank you for your commitment and support
to continue our mission to provide cleaner energy infrastructure for communities in crisis. Together, we can make a difference :)
