Dear Partners, Supporters and Friends,
Hurricane Melissa made landfall today as the worst storm in Jamaica’s history (since records began), and the fifth most intense Atlantic storm on record. Catastrophic infrastructure collapse across the island is expected. 175mph winds and historic rainfall will leave millions of people without power and communications.
Yesterday, our staff and volunteers in New Orleans spent all day preparing a shipment of over 150 portable solar and battery power stations valued at over $100k for rapid donation. Our Senior Operations Manager left our New Orleans warehouse at 5 AM this morning and just arrived in Jacksonville, Florida this afternoon, where the equipment will be loaded onto a cargo plane for shipment to Jamaica as soon as the airport is cleared to accept deliveries.
