Celebrating Navjyoti’s 38-Year Journey: From Intervention to Transformation
Honouring the milestones, people, and programs that shaped our path since 1987.
Happy New Year to everyone! We reflect on our journey of making a difference together. We also look ahead to new goals. On January 5th, 2026, we mark 38 years of Navjyoti India Foundation. Our progress shows in stronger communities, impactful partnerships, and the dignity and self-reliance of thousands committed to positive change.
Founded in 1987 under the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Dr. Kiran Bedi, Navjyoti began by intervening with perpetrators of crime. We helped them rebuild their lives through discipline, education, and rehabilitation. As our work deepened, our mission expanded to uplift women, who were often victims of crime. We provided them with a pathway to safety, skills, and independence.
Our first community programs, Navjyoti Pathshala, Aparadh Silai Kendra, and Gali Schools, created learning spaces in Delhi’s underserved areas. Through these, hundreds of students gained access to education they might not have otherwise received. Building on this foundation, our Remedial Education Program, launched in 1999, has continued to support thousands of children each year.
In 2004-05, when families along the Yamuna Pushta relocated for the Commonwealth Games, Navjyoti helped them resettle in Bawana, ensuring continued education, skills training, and access to community services.
Our Delhi and Haryana programs have evolved to meet changing needs. Bal Gurukul, T4K, and school support projects foster student confidence and leadership. Project Unnati and the Rural Entrepreneurship Programme equip women to support their families. Navjyoti Skills Academy offers future-ready courses aligned with employability standards.
We are equally committed to conserving the environment. Our interventions, such as building check dams in rural Haryana and installing more than 50 large-scale rainwater harvesting systems in police stations across Gurugram, Faridabad, Sonipat, and Rohtak, have increased climate resilience for thousands, ensuring water security and sustainable community resources.
As we begin our 38th year, Navjyoti remains dedicated to empowering communities, fostering self-reliance, and enabling future generations to thrive through sustained, community-led change.
Here’s to 38 years of making a difference, with many more to come.

This year reminded us that meaningful change is not fast—it is deep. In classrooms filled with curiosity, in young people finding confidence, and in communities growing stronger, our purpose came alive. We learned, adapted, and built together— grounded in people, not numbers.
