ApX bassist Keith Haynie is turning 30 again! No, it’s not his birthday; he has already celebrated 30 twice (and then some) as far as that goes.
This coming Monday will mark Keith's 30th anniversary as a member of ApologetiX. He played his first official concert as our bassist on October 6, 1995, at The Place Community Youth Center in Weston WV.
To my knowledge, no photographic evidence of that blessed event exists … at least not in my possession. However, there is phonographic evidence. Some songs recorded that night made it onto our Rare Not Well Done downloads: “Wrongview,” “Backinahurry,” “God’s Own Son,” and “Telling the Drama.”
Technically, Keith’s first concert playing with us was almost three years earlier, on December 22, 1992, at First Love Church in Cranberry PA, where he served as a youth pastor. Our bassist at the time, Jerry Hayostek, couldn’t make it, so Keith filled in.
We actually do have a photo of that fateful day. If you look closely, you’ll see we were short-staffed. Our lead guitarist back then, Karl Messner, isn’t there either. I think he had to work and arrived later in the show. Thankfully, we had two main guitarists. The other was Andy Sparks.
