Annual Town Meeting and Elections

Municipal elections for the Select Board and School Board will be on Tuesday, June 9, at the Town Office from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm. The Town Office will be open for VOTING ONLY on June 9.

Tinsley Morrison, running for a one-year Select Board term (to complete Breanna Pinkham Bebb's term).

Molly Schauffler, running for re-election for a three-year Select Board term.

Mark Lynch, running for re-election for a three-year School Board term.

The annual town meeting will be on Monday, June 15, at 6:30 pm at the Drinkwater School (56 Bayside Road). The Annual Report will be available at the Town Office soon and is currently on the website. Community Center Fundraising

The Town has begun its major fundraising campaign for the Community Center and Town Office. You can find the letter announcing the campaign here and more information about the fundraising, including promotional videos and the latest updates on the Town's website. The Town is aiming for 100% participation -- donations large or small! Every dollar raised now is one dollar less that the Town has to borrow and pay back, with interest, later.

The Town is also looking for help with planning and organizing community events, identifying potential donors and grant opportunities, and helping pack and move the Town Office to its temporary space.

Summer Community Events

The Town is planning three community-building and fundraising events this summer to benefit the new Community Center and Town Office project. Please save the dates for a contra dance (Sunday, July 19), a "Best of Maine" art market and lobster bake (Sunday, August 2), and the 2nd annual Northportpalooza (Saturday, August 22). Stay tuned for details!

Katherine Paige Fundraiser

The Belmont Fire Department is hosting a dinner and silent auction on Sunday, June 28, from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm. at the Belmont Town Office to benefit Firefighters Katherine Paige and Wayne Woodbury, who were injured in the Robbins Lumber fire. See the Facebook post or call Kristen Waterman at (207) 342-5722 for more information.

The Town is continuing to collect donations for the Paige family to help them through this time. Please mail or drop off checks at the Town Office, payable to "Town of Northport" with "Katherine Paige" in the memo line. 100% of the donations received will be delivered to the Paige family.

If you prefer to donate online, the family has set up a GoFundMe, and you may donate there.

The Town has also created an email address for people who would like to send a message to Katherine and her family. Please send messages to support.for.katherine.paige@northportmaine.org, and we will deliver them to her.

Flag Fundraiser

Northport VFW Post 6131 is raising funds to replace some of the flags that it puts on telephone poles along Route 1 through the Town every year. The VFW is also seeking help with placing and removing the flags each year.

Holiday Schedule

The Town Office will be closed on June 19 and on July 3-4.

The Transfer Station is closed on July 4.

Property Revaluation Update

Rob Duplisea of RJD Appraisals will share the overall results of the property reevaluation at the Select Board meeting on June 22. After that meeting, taxpayers will receive a notice in the mail with their new valuation. Tax bills will be mailed in August as usual, and the tax rate will be based on that new valuation.

ScrapDogs Compost Pilot Project

The Town has received a grant for a two-year pilot to reduce the amount of food waste that goes into the trash. The first 75 participants will receive food scrap buckets and will be able to drop their food waste at the Transfer Station for free. With enough participants, the Town should be able to reduce the amount of garbage hauled from the Transfer Station and save the Town money.
