The Town is hosting a community-building event that will feature local businesses, non-profits, food, games, and activities. Bring a non-perishable item to donate to the food pantry; bring a plate of baked goodies to share.

Property Taxes Due

The first half of Northport property taxes are due on September 30. (Village taxes were due September 1. Please pay those if you have not already.)

Property Revaluation

The Town will be conducting a Town-wide property revaluation this winter. The last revaluation was in 2004, and the state recommends doing one every 10 years. The revaluation will help bring all the assessed property values up to date based on their current value. The assessors expect to visit properties starting in December.

Traffic Safety Committee

The Select Board is seeking volunteers to serve on a traffic and pedestrian safety committee. The goal is to look at a few issues throughout Town -- speed, crosswalks, sidewalks -- and come up with recommendations for the Select Board to consider funding in next year's budget. Town Office Project Update

The Town's request for $2.35 million in federal funding was approved by the full Senate on August 1. The request must still be approved by the House and be signed by the President before we can begin construction.

The site plans, floor plans, and exterior elevations for the Town Office and Community Center project are available on the website and an 11"x17" paper copy is available at the Town Office.

Upcoming Road Projects

The paving projects on Summit Ave, Crest St, Verona Ave, and Broadway are expected to begin soon. There may be traffic delays, but at least one lane will remain open during the project.

The bridge-widening project over Schoolhouse Brook on Bayside Road near the Drinkwater School is expected to begin this month. The project will add sidewalks to both sides of the street to increase pedestrian safety in this area. There may be delays during construction, but the road will remain open.

Pesticide Collection

The Maine Department of Environmental Protection is collecting old and unwanted pesticides. See the DEP flyer for more information or to register. You must register by September 26 to participate.

Transfer Station Reminders

The price of dump stickers is now $4 to cover increased costs in the Town's new contract for hauling household trash. All bagged trash is $4, and you will have to either trade in your blue stickers at the Town Office for the new yellow stickers at $1 each, or pay the difference with a check at the Transfer Station.

You may also use up old blue stickers by placing two blue stickers on a bag of trash.

Please trade in or use up old blue stickers by October 1.

Upcoming Meetings

The Select Board regularly meets on the second and fourth Monday at 6:15pm at the Town Office. Agendas and minutes are available on the website. If you have anything you would like to add to the agenda, please contact James Kossuth at administrator@northportmaine.org or 338-3819x6 by the Wednesday before the meeting.

The Select Board meeting regularly scheduled for Monday, October 13, has been moved to Wednesday, October 15, due to the holiday.
