Kindergarten Visits Dairy Farm

On Friday, March 6th, the kindergarten class were guests of M&B Dairy Farms in Lecanto. The trip began with a lesson about the different breeds of cows that are on the farm and how the cows are milked. Kindergartners had front row seats to observe the milking process. Next was a visit to the "parlor", where the milk is cooled, tested, and stored until it is ready to be transferred. The students learned about the dairy cows' diet and were able to visit the cows as they were resting. The last stop was to visit four calves born the night before. Each student received books, activity books, and his or her own bottle of milk to drink with a snack. It was a wonderful time learning about life and work on a dairy farm!
Signs of Spring

Second graders have been studying nature cycles in science. The students watched the life cycle of a chicken, from egg to chick over the course of 21 days. They utilized a method called candling, which projects light through an egg to highlight the developing embryo. It was amazing to see God's creation develop and hatch just as He designed!
The Votes Are In

Recently, the third grade took a field trip to the Citrus County Supervisor of Elections' office. During the trip, students learned about the voting process and its importance, toured the warehouse, and took part in a mock election. The ballot questions included: "Which amusement park would you like to bring to Citrus County" and, "Would you rather have 30 minutes of P.E. or 30 minutes of watching T.V.?"  P.E. won by a landslide!
Students Create Moving Art

Grammar school students in grades K-4th recently studied the master artist, Edgar Degas, and produced works of art using pastels. Degas, a French artist, is considered one of the founders of Impressionism. He loved painting ballerinas and jockeys for creating the sensation of movement through his art. Orators Stand Out at County Competition

Three SRCS students placed at the county-wide 4-H public speaking competition, with sixth grader Lucy Hart (top), taking home first place with her speech, "Take the Risk," about life at summer camp.

Sixth grader, Xander Brewer (bottom right) received an honorable mention for his speech, "Developing Tough Skin," and fourth grader, Lucy Allen (bottom left), earned an honorable mention for her speech, "An English Channel Hero," about Gertrude Ederle, the first woman to swim the English Channel.
Unless the Lord Builds a House

SRCS Seniors wrapped up several days working alongside Habitat home builders to build a home from slab to windows! The home is now ready for plumbing, electrical, and HVAC contractors. This experience afforded the work team the opportunity to learn new skills and experience the satisfaction of achieving goals together. The students learned that the greatest joy comes from spending their time and energy serving the needs of others and bringing light and hope to neighbors in need.
Seventh Graders on a Fishing Expedition

This week, our 7th grade science students paid a visit to the University of Florida School of Forest, Fisheries, and Geomatics Sciences field labs. In the “fish barn,” the students learned about the distinctive design, life history, and ecology of common freshwater fish. In the dipping ponds, they were able to use nets to collect their own invertebrates, identify them, and discuss their unique characteristics and role in aquatic food webs. Finally, students were able to fish the ponds stocked with channel catfish, bluegill, and largemouth bass.
Solid Work for Upper School Chemists

The juniors spent last week in the chemistry lab observing, identifying and writing balanced equations for precipitation reactions, particularly the formation of solids. Precipitation reactions are an integral part of many areas of study and development such as water treatment, soil analysis, pharmaceutical engineering, and even the production of cheese!
