Preschoolers Put Pencil to Paper

Handwriting practice in preschool is about more than forming letters—it helps children develop focus, patience, and fine motor skills. As they take their time to write, they strengthen hand-eye coordination and attention to detail, building important skills that prepare them for kindergarten and future learning.
Lessons From a Pumpkin

Kindergarteners read The Pumpkin Patch Parable, by Liz Curtis Higgs. The students learned all the steps from planting, to growing, to harvesting pumpkins, including how a farmer cleans, carves, and transforms the pumpkin into a Jack-o'-lantern. In like manner, through God's love and grace, He changes us into new creations and fills us with light that shines in the darkness.
Third Grade Explores Science Center

Last week the third graders visited the Orlando Science Center. Highlights of the trip included the 2theXtreme math in motion exhibit, the STEM lab wilderness survival challenges, experimenting with pulleys and the Balance Challenge, digging for dinosaur bones, and the interactive weather and earthquake simulators.
Math in Motion

The third-graders have been studying motion and force. For one lesson students were invited to bring toy cars for an exercise that involved racing and math. They measured the distance the cars traveled down a ramp over a certain period of time to calculate the speed and determine the winner.
SRCS Interactive Drama Delights

Thank you to everyone who came out to support the theatre class performance of Holy Mother of Bingo on November 7th and 8th. This unique show combined an interactive murder mystery with five rounds of bingo.  It was a lot of fun for the actors and the audience alike!
Here Comes the Sun

SRCS upper school students enjoyed lunch in the sun last week, after the cold snap had passed. The playground doubles as an outdoor cafeteria, offering shade in the warmer months and sunny areas for the beautiful cooler weather we have been enjoying lately.

Elect Electives!

How many of us think back to our time as students and wish we had taken that photography or creative writing class? When it comes to electives at Seven Rivers, our philosophy is, “Why not?” While most of us will have to do some form of training or further education for a job, we may not get to learn to paint, play an instrument, develop our acting chops, or discover the truths hidden in novels and films. At Seven Rivers, we relish learning- not just the skills that transfer directly to careers, but knowledge that enriches our students' lives. If learning is an act of worship, why not enjoy worship in many spheres? As we’re heading into the final weeks of the first semester, schedules and electives will be on the minds of many students. Let’s encourage our children to worship in new ways. Have questions about electives? Email knelson@sevenrivers.org.
