A brief look back over the month just gone, and what’s on the horizon…

The previous exhibition at Newcastle Contemporary Art, entitled No Last Dance, was a group exhibition exploring how time is intrinsic to the act of making and viewing painting. It showcased exciting approaches to painting, stimulating discussion around how artists sustain a motivated and ambitious practice. 

A symposium entitled Communities of Practice took place on May 18th, followed by the exhibition closing party, which coincided with the Late Shows opening.

In March and April the building reception hosted Outside Our View, a group exhibition organised and curated by Rachel Eleanor Brook to raise awareness and support for the people of Palestine enduring ongoing catastrophic warfare. The exhibition was supported by Newcastle Contemporary Art.

Outside Our View took place over a three week period and succeeded in raising a whopping £1,100 for Medical Aid for Palestinians. We would like to extend a massive thank you to all those involved.

At the start of May, we hosted a building social for our community of studio holders, to align with National Gardening Week. 

Looking to inject a little more colour and life into our communal spaces here at High Bridge Works, studio holders were invited to join us for an afternoon for repotting and plant pot painting! It was a relaxed and jolly afternoon event, yielding some vibrant results, as seen below.  

We hope to see the plants thrive in their new environment!

Last month, Ladies Wine and Design hosted another of their fantastic events in the High Bridge Works meeting room. The talk, given by Georgia Munro from Everything was entitled Am I A Designer Yet? and offered a fascinating insight into Georgia's experience in the design world so far.

Big congratulations to studio holders Everything who have been shortlisted in this years Pacific North Awards. 

They are nominated for their Knives Impact Everyone campaign in the Creative for Good category; celebrating creative problem-solving, solutions or initiatives that harness creativity and seek to positively impact the world.

We wish them the best of luck in the Awards, happening in June.

Everything are also celebrating their 10th birthday next month - here's to another decade of great work!
