Marsha's a great momma hen, which makes my life easier (I don't have to worry about her just deciding to give up after a few days) but it also makes my life harder (because she one million percent does NOT want me touching those eggs). I've been watching carefully to make sure she is eating and drinking from her little broody bin dishes, and then I clear away the ginormous poops she leaves in the bedding outside the nest every other day or so.
I did get a chance to candle* two of the twelve eggs Marsha is sitting on, and they looked appropriate for the day I checked on them, but Marsha was biting me hard through the gloves, even though it was 10pm and she should have been super sleepy. In order to not upset her too much, and to not get any of the eggs accidentally pecked as she attacked my hand, I decided to not check on them all and to just let her do her job.
* Candling is when you use a bright flashlight in a dark room to shine light through an egg and see what you can through the shell. This can help by letting you know if an egg is not developing.
