🎧 Daft Punk are the subject of a new book due out on October 1. A very interesting excerpt from the book was printed by Mixmag, which examines differing perceptions of the band among French and American audiences. 🎧 Joy Oladokun, an up-and-comer who fuses folk traditions with R&B, did a beautiful Tiny Desk show for NPR. 🎧 Yacht Rock as a genre was once widely derided as corny, soft and overly smooth. Yet, in recent years the genre has seen a wholesale reappraisal. There are successful yacht rock cover bands like Yacht Rock Revue, there's a yacht rock station on Sirius, hipster bands like Young Gun Silver Fox have devoted their entire sound to the yacht aesthetic, and Michael McDonald & Kenny Loggins even guested on one of Thundercat's biggest hits. In that vein, Gorilla vs Bear put together a Modern Yacht Rock 2021 mix, perfect for those who don't want summer to ever end.
🎧 Dolly Parton has received much praise in the media lately. Many of these accolades are probably well-deserved. Dolly seems like a really nice lady! That said, a recent NPR piece wonders if there are subconscious motives for our cultural deification of her.🎧 Telluride Jazz Festival takes place in one of America's most beautiful towns. It'll come as no surprise then that this collection of photos and videos from the fest is stunning. 🎧 Shannon & The Clams' recent album, which was produced by Dan Aurbach at his prolific Easy Eye Sound studio, was featured in our most recent best new music edition. It gets a track-by-track analysis via CoS.🎧 Mary Lou Williams is possibly the most underrated artist in jazz history. She wrote and arranged for Duke Ellington, and served as a mentor for Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonius Monk, Bud Powell and other legends. Her discography is also filled with gems. Yet, she's far from a household name, even among jazz fans. This Jazztimes profile looks to change that. Her five essential records are detailed here.🎧 The rave giveth and the rave taketh away... seemed to be the motto at a bonkers 6 day illegal party attended by 10,000 people in Italy where 1 person died and 1 person was born. Our prayers go out to that baby and to the ravers who witnessed the birth while likely higher than the Alps ::shudder::🎧 New music:- My Morning Jacket dropped the debut single off their upcoming self-titled album due in late October.
