The Banner Still Waves

The preschool students learned about the meaning of the American flag, including what the stars and stripes represent. They also talked about what our country stands for. To finish the lesson, the children proudly marched in a parade around the preschool building.
A Change of Perspective

Second grade students have been studying concave and convex lenses. Mrs. Carty brought out the magnify glasses to show the students how the convex lens magnifies the images and makes them bigger because the light refracts as it passes through the curved lens.
It's All in the Angle

High school students are practicing portrait drawing from life, with their fellow students volunteering to pose. Students practiced one-, two-, five- and ten-minute portraits, drawing poses from various angles and practicing how the head tips, turns, and tilts.
Huddle Around!

The SRCS FCA huddle is growing! A team of student athletes and coaches host an FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) huddle every other week during high school lunch. FCA staff provide free food, and, last week, FCA Area Director, Karsten Sween, shared a word of encouragement. Three weeks ago, Deputy Gentile shared a verse and led us through a guided prayer.

Every huddle has a specific rhythm: 1) welcome with food, 2) warm-up with a game or fellowship time, 3) workout - get into the Word of God or hear a testimony, and 4) wrap-up with discussion and prayer.

Twice a month faculty huddle coach Alex Sween and high school student ministry director Samantha Pohlenz meet with the student leaders to equip them in the Word and empower them to plan and lead their huddle.

Thank you FCA for sponsoring such an awesome club!
 Recite After Me

The ninth-grade bible class routinely practices reciting the Bible together. Reading the Scriptures out loud helps students pay close attention to the text, improve pronunciation, and learn how to follow the pace of corporate Bible reading.
Do You Hear What I Hear?

The Senior Bible class was asked to analyze the metanarrative of the most popular songs on YouTube. It was their job to assess the lyrics and answer questions regarding how the message reflects the nature of God, the nature of humans, the origin of evil, the source of morality, and the meaning of human history. This activity is part of a practice of learning to examine modern culture from a Biblical worldview.
Spirit Week for Middle School and Upper School is next week!
Meet Our Staff
Mrs. Thompson

My name is Kathy Thompson and I have my MA in music education from the University of South Florida. I was one of 6 children. My parents were both musicians and growing up, there was always music in our house. My mother was a high school choral director, and my father was a professional saxophone player.

I am a band geek, completely and unabashedly! I love the sound of the band and the daily challenge to help students achieve at their highest level! I love that SRCS is a nurturing environment, not only for students but for teachers. I love that our administration believes that what goes on in the classroom between teacher and students is still the most important component of every student's education.

I love biking, gardening, reading, walking, yoga, and playing with the dog -in no particular order!

FAFSA Nite at SRCS

Attention, parents of seniors!

Please mark your calendars to join us on Wednesday, October 8th, from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM, to complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) for college. This application is essential for students to receive financial aid packages from colleges and universities, and it also helps determine eligibility for federal grants and work-study opportunities.

Our goal is to help you complete the entire application so that you have one less thing to think about for college applications. To make the most of the FAFSA Nite, please go to https://studentaid.gov/fsa-id to make an FSA ID and account for both you and your child. If this step isn’t completed before October 8th, you will not be able to fill out the FAFSA until the ID is confirmed, which may take a few days.  You can RSVP your attendance to knelson@sevenrivers.org. We look forward to seeing you there!
