Thousands of kids are signed up, field permits are in place, schedules are taking shape, but the entire season comes down to one thing: volunteers. If your child has played AYSO, you’ve seen how coaches, refs, and team managers all work together to give kids the gift of soccer. Practices and games can’t happen without volunteers, but did you know that if more people step up to be coaches and referees, more kids will play soccer?
As of today, there are waitlists to play at most age levels. When people sign up to be coaches and refs, more teams can be formed, which moves kids off waitlists and onto rosters. There’s still time to be part of our Fall 2025 league…Make soccer happen & sign up today!
There’s no better way to start the new season than joining fellow Region 13 families at these community events:
For details on all upcoming events, be sure to check out our Region 13 calendar.
Are you unsure if you have what it takes to be a coach or referee? Don’t worry—Region 13 has you covered. July and August are packed with training opportunities for coaches and refs:

On Saturday, July 12, a hearty crew of parents and youths all pitched in to make the Region 13 clubhouse ready for the upcoming season. From moving furniture to taking stock of uniforms, equipment, and supplies, this group of incredible volunteers did it all. Join us in thanking soccer parents Doug George, Lindsay George, Luke Powers, Christina Scott, and Patrick Shopbell; as well as youth soccer helpers Grady Breton, Estelle George, Reid George, Caitlin Scott, and Cassidy Scott for their heroic efforts!
Victory Park Field Marshall
Every Saturday during the season, Victory Park in Pasadena comes alive with hundreds of kids playing soccer. The Field Marshall helps make sure that everything is in place, from goals to flags, tents, and tables. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys working collaboratively and pulling off a great event. If this sounds like you, email rc@ayso13.org.
Action Photographer
Are you a soccer parent who’s also a pro or hobbyist photographer? Region 13 is looking to replenish its collection of awesome soccer action shots. If you can help capture the magic, email bret@ayso13.org.
School Partners
Can you help connect soccer families and strengthen relationships with local schools? The new School Liaison role involves a willingness to build bridges between Region 13 and fellow leaders at your kids’ school. If you’re a parent at a PUSD, LAUSD, LCF, charter, or private school playing in Region 13, write to rc@ayso13.org.
Region 13 is partnering with the Women’s Coaching Alliance to start more young women on sports coaching careers. This upcoming season, pairs of young women will each coach an AYSO team, guided by adult mentors who attend all the practices and games.
Mentors Needed
Experienced coaches are vital to the success of this initiative. Help cultivate the next generation of women leaders in sport and become a WCA Mentor.
Region 13 soccer families will be recovering from the fire for years to come. If you need any replacement soccer gear, Region 13 can help. You can indicate that on your player registration form, or fill out the form at ayso13.org/eaton or reply to this email. AYSO can supply socks, shoes, shin guards, coach/referee gear, etc.
Need a soccer ball? Stop by the clubhouse at 711 W Woodbury, Unit E, Altadena. Take a ball or leave a ball in the bin outside the door.

Hi ⚽️ Families,
The best part of being a longtime R13 volunteer has been the friendships I've made along the way. I’ve grown to appreciate why so many people stick around to volunteer with AYSO, even long after their children have grown up and moved on to other things. And for so many reasons, this season seems like a good time to remember that it’s those relationships that bind us together as the Region 13 family. So we're putting an emphasis on our community by kicking off the season with a number of family-friendly happenings for the entire Region 13 community: We start on August 21 with our Open House and Equipment Swap, followed by our New Parent Orientation—both at the Region 13 Clubhouse in Altadena. On Tuesday of the following week, we kickoff our season with a celebration of food and fun at Memorial Park in La Canada. Finally, that next Saturday, we’ve got cheap tickets to all head out to the LA Galaxy soccer game. We will sit together and watch the pros play the same beautiful game that we are all learning together—as the Region 13 family. I can’t wait to see you all there.
—Patrick Shopbell, your volunteer RC and Galaxy Fan
