Remembering Bill Exley of the Nihilist Spasm Band
We at Forest City Gallery are deeply saddened to hear of the loss of Bill Exley, lead vocalist of the Nihilist Spasm Band for over 50 years.
Bill lived an extraordinary life and will be deeply missed. In addition to being a long-time member of NSB and paving the way for experimental noise music, Bill was also an inspirational high school English teacher at Elmira District Secondary School.
Our thoughts and condolences go to Bill's family, bandmates, friends, and community members affected by his loss.

Colleen Heslin Stories of Belonging May 29 - July 24, 2025 Forest City Gallery (1025 Elias St)
There's one week left to check out the current exhibition Stories of Belonging by Colleen Heslin, on display until July 24th!
Stories of belonging by Colleen Heslin is an installation of six hand-dyed, sewn monochrome abstract paintings that explore colour theory and queer pride. Each work reflects on progressive stages of spiritual, emotional, and psychological awakening brought on by social disconnection and generational dysfunction within western culture. These paintings echo shifts towards presence and self-awareness, from unconscious to consciously bringing attention to subtle nuances within colour spectrums.
