In the same week I was twice asked..
'Can I kneel after knee replacement?'
So, I'll cover it here so I can link people to this detail..
This one is useful to share with / forward to anyone you know undergoing knee replacement..
..People are often given the answer 'some can, some can't'. I think the answer is more nuanced and it's a good challenge to what's possible.
It's another useful example of people saying:
And it's a chance to turn..
So, what are the facts.. what's the data..?
BUT that takes in all-comers with most people NOT following this approach. So..
Think 'scale up slowly' ..and what that means.
Ask: 'When did I last kneel (comfortably)..?' and give yourself that timescale to get back to kneeling. That's you target.
Importantly, start right now..
(ideally before your operation)
HOWEVER, before challenging yourself with a full kneel start building back your quadriceps strength on the bike. Stronger muscles will..
Until you have that confidence support yourself up and down.
So, have a chair or stool nearby. Then..
Use a well padded cushion
Then try some knee pads
Then try a soft floor
Then a hard floor.
'Scale up slowly' works..
It's an 'expert spot' when I hear 'I can't..'
Always to be reframed as a 'Can I..?'
Remember..
Consistency is key
Scale up slowly
Good Luck..!
