Welcome to this week's Repworks Weekly Wire! This week’s Weekly Wire is focused on something we talk about a lot at Repworks — finding the right solution for the actual application, not simply choosing a product because it checks a box. We’re taking a closer look at how GCON approaches surveillance server and storage design, why AI needs to prove real value beyond the buzzwords, and two more Luminys technologies that can solve very different project challenges. We also have updates from Zeptive and AMG Systems, plus GSX information for next week. If you’re heading to GSX, let us know. We can help coordinate meetings with the manufacturers we represent, including Chris Short from GCON, who will be available by appointment. As always, if you need pricing, project assistance, product demonstrations, training or help selecting the right solution for an application, Chase and I are here to help. Thank you for your continued partnership and support. – Bryndis

GCON Systems: The Engineering Behind the Surveillance System Purpose-built infrastructure, precise sizing, VMS-ready deployment and support for professional security systems.
Why GCON? GCON Systems was founded by industry veterans who have been engineering surveillance infrastructure since 2006. The company describes itself as technology-first: instead of treating surveillance servers as ordinary IT hardware, GCON engineers the compute, storage and viewing infrastructure around the demands of continuous video. Start With the Project — Not a Generic Server GCON’s system-sizing process looks at the actual surveillance environment before hardware is selected. That includes camera count and configuration, retention, frame rate and recording parameters, performance expectations and future growth. • Processing requirements for continuous video recording • CPU core count and clock-speed requirements • RAID configuration and drive count • Storage capacity for the required retention period • Cost-effective component selection without unnecessary overhead One Infrastructure Partner The current GCON portfolio covers the major hardware layers behind a professional surveillance system: • DCS enterprise/data-center servers • NVS surveillance-optimized recording servers • PRO Series systems for smaller deployments • Compact and rugged MicroServers for edge applications • DAS, NAS and SAN storage architectures
• GVS viewing stations from basic operator positions to command-center workstations
VMS Pre-Installation — Less Work in the Field GCON can deliver servers with the VMS software ecosystem installed, configured and tested before the unit leaves the facility. Depending on the project, that preparation can include the VMS, SQL database, supporting frameworks, management tools and performance optimization. • Less on-site software installation • Reduced configuration time and field labor • Factory-tested software and hardware compatibility • Fewer installation-related configuration problems Support That Understands the Application GCON’s current technical-support program includes a 5-year Next Business Day warranty on covered systems plus surveillance-specific assistance. Support goes beyond basic hardware replacement to include configuration guidance, VMS interaction troubleshooting, performance optimization and upgrade planning. Why Dealers Should Care • Less server and storage guesswork on the front end • Hardware matched to the actual video workload • A path from small commercial systems to enterprise and command-center deployments • Pre-installation services that can reduce field setup • Engineering and technical support from a team focused on surveillance infrastructure Good Applications for GCON • Enterprise and commercial surveillance • K-12 and higher education • Healthcare and government • Oil & gas and critical facilities • Large-retention and high-camera-count systems
• Security operations centers and video walls
The Bottom Line GCON is not simply supplying a box with a processor and hard drives. The value is in sizing the system around the surveillance workload, selecting the right architecture, preparing it for deployment and supporting it after installation.

HEADING TO GSX? MEET WITH GCON GSX 2026 • September 14–16 • Atlanta, Georgia GCON will not have a booth at GSX this year, but Chris Short will be attending and available for scheduled appointments. If you’d like to learn more about GCON’s surveillance servers, NVRs, storage systems, viewing stations, system sizing, or VMS pre-installation services, Repworks can coordinate a time to meet with Chris during the show. PUT GCON TO THE TEST ON YOUR NEXT PROJECT Have a project coming up? Send Repworks the system requirements and let GCON size and quote the server and storage solution. Then compare the design, performance, support and cost side-by-side with the server solution you’re using today. Want a quick introduction first? We can also schedule a brief webinar for your team to review GCON’s features and benefits, its system-sizing process, VMS pre-installation and support — and why purpose-built surveillance infrastructure can make a difference. Contact Bryndis or Chase to schedule a GSX appointment, request a project design and quote, or set up a brief GCON webinar.

AI in Security: Stop Buying the Hype — Prove the Value
AI Is Everywhere. But Is It Actually Delivering? AI is showing up in nearly every corner of physical security. The question is no longer whether a product has AI — it’s whether the technology actually improves the outcome.
Start With the Problem, Not the Buzzword A September 3rd SecurityInfoWatch article makes the case plainly: AI should be evaluated by what it can prove in the real environment — not by the demo, dashboard or label on the brochure. Before choosing an AI-enabled feature, define the problem first. Are you trying to reduce nuisance alerts? Find video faster? Detect an event earlier? Improve operator efficiency? If the goal isn’t clear, neither is the value. How Do You Measure It? ▪ Detection accuracy — does it find what it is supposed to find? ▪ False positives — are operators still buried in nuisance alerts? ▪ Missed events — what meaningful activity was not detected? ▪ Investigation time — does it make video search materially faster?
▪ Operational impact — does it reduce workload, improve response or create measurable value?
A Baseline Matters Claims like “fewer false alarms” or “faster investigations” only mean something when they are compared with the customer’s current system and workflow. That means looking at the existing alert volume, operator workload, investigation time, missed events and infrastructure before deciding whether the new technology is actually an improvement. Where the ROI Can Show Up ▪ Less time spent reviewing video manually
▪ Faster investigations and evidence retrieval
▪ Fewer nuisance alerts and less alert fatigue
▪ Better use of existing cameras, data and infrastructure
▪ Improved situational awareness without simply adding more staff Questions Worth Asking ▪ What exactly does the AI do? ▪ What does success look like? ▪ How will we test it in this environment? ▪ What happens when it is wrong? ▪ Where does human verification fit?
The Bottom Line AI can be extremely valuable in physical security — but only when it solves a defined problem and the result can be measured. The best question for dealers, integrators and end users is not “Does it have AI?” It is “What does it do better, and can we prove it?”

LUMINYS TECHNOLOGY BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE + LONG-DISTANCE POWER & DATA
Two More Luminys Technologies Worth Knowing
Last week we looked at LumiNightKing and LumiSearch. This week, we’re continuing through Luminys’ technology portfolio with two very different tools: one focused on turning video into usable business intelligence, and one focused on extending power and data farther.
LumiAnalytics Turn Video Into Actionable Insight LumiAnalytics uses edge-based real-time processing and AI-driven metadata to help operators identify events and help businesses understand what is happening in a space. ▪ People counting ▪ Queue management ▪ Heat mapping ▪ Smart object detection ▪ Behavior and traffic-pattern insight
Why it matters: the same video system that supports security can also provide operational information that helps customers make better business decisions.
LumiPower Power + Data Up to 3,000 Feet LumiPower is designed to extend both power and data over long distances — up to 3,000 feet — without repeaters. ▪ Extends power and network data together ▪ Supports long-distance camera deployments ▪ Reduces the need for intermediate repeaters ▪ Can simplify challenging perimeter or remote-camera applications
Why it matters: when distance is the problem, LumiPower can give integrators another design option before adding extra network infrastructure.
Have an Application for One of These Technologies? Send Repworks the project requirements. We can help identify where the technology fits, which supported products apply, and how to build it into the system design.
The Bottom Line LumiAnalytics and LumiPower solve very different problems, but they share the same idea: use technology where it adds practical value. LumiAnalytics turns video into useful operational insight, while LumiPower helps extend power and data where distance makes a traditional network design more difficult.

ZEPTIVE Vape Detection Tuned to the Environment
The Right Vape Detection for Every Environment Vape detection is not one-size-fits-all. The environment matters — and so does the ability to adjust the system as conditions change.
Different Spaces. Different Conditions. Schools, hotels, workplaces, healthcare facilities and manufacturing environments do not have the same airflow, occupancy patterns or background conditions. A detector that performs well in one setting may need different sensitivity in another. Built to Adapt
Zeptive combines multiple sensors with intelligent detection algorithms to analyze more than airborne particles. Sensitivity can be adjusted to help match the detector to the environment it is protecting.
Where It Fits ▪ Schools and educational facilities ▪ Hotels and hospitality spaces ▪ Workplaces and commercial buildings ▪ Healthcare facilities ▪ Manufacturing environments Why That Matters ▪ Helps reduce nuisance events ▪ Allows the system to be tuned for real-world conditions ▪ Supports deployment across multiple facility types
▪ Gives integrators more flexibility when conditions change
The Bottom Line
Zeptive’s multi-sensor approach gives integrators flexibility to tune vape detection to the real conditions of each environment—helping improve detection performance while reducing nuisance events.
