It's been a busy week. My fiancee and I drove from Stockholm in Sweden all the way down to Montpellier in France. It took 5 days and 25 hours worth of driving! We're stopping here for the work week, then continuing on to Spain for the rest of the fall and winter. Culture is more than an office
Seeing Chris Herd's tweet over the weekend had me thinking about how ridiculous it is to link offices to preserving culture. The best company culture I have ever experienced involved a remote team that I hadn't met in-person for over 4 years.
There's no right or wrong when it comes to culture. It can revolve around an office and it can exist exclusively online. It's silly to argue that returning to the office is the only way to preserve culture. We are in the middle of a paradigm shift and there seems to be an "old guard" that aren't willing to adapt to the new (and improved) opportunities available to us.
If you find yourself in the middle of a back to the office vs. remote tug of war, it could be the perfect time to start exploring what other remote-first teams have to offer.
