I've been calling for a ban on Israeli settlement goods since I entered Parliament. 

On 8 July, I held a debate in the chamber on UK trade with the illegal Israeli settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territories.

Now, the Government has announced an outright ban. This is the culmination of everything I fought for.

Homes are demolished, olive groves are torched, families are driven off the land their grandparents farmed. This is the machinery of illegal annexation. The UK should not be associating itself with this flagrant defiance of the ICJ.

I said it was time to match our words with actions. This is what that pressure achieved.

The first programme of its kind in Sheffield gave participants an incredible week of activities, including visits to Parliament and the BBC, a mock debate and so much more.

Thank you to members of Sheffield's Kashmiri community who met with me to raise deeply concerning reports from Azad Kashmir, including reports of persecution ranging from intimidation to torture.

Since we met, further reports of security forces firing on peaceful protestors are egregious acts and a complete violation of human rights.

Families here in Sheffield are understandably worried for loved ones they cannot contact. These concerns cannot be ignored.

I've urged the Government for action to encourage restraint and welcomed his assurance that he is monitoring the situation.

Paradiso Artisan Tiramisù turned one year old, and I got to share in the absolutely delicious biggest handmade tiramisù in Sheffield!

From Puglia to Sharrow Vale Road, Mattia has said that the recipe has a way of bringing everyone together, and it was a wonderful event that did just that. He’ll even teach you to make it, he believes in it that much!

Congratulations to Mattia and the team, it truly was spectacular!

Edward Street Family Fun Day was free, packed and full of families enjoying their own neighbourhood together.

It was a pleasure to see the people that love living there and love the diversity of the community. Great work to the Central LAC team and all the volunteers!

I was pleased when the Sheffield Star asked if I’d contribute a regular column, so I chose to write the first about bringing the water sector back into public ownership.

It was also a pleasure to drop in to the People's Commission on the Water Sector. The Commission is calling for public ownership, an end to private investors' stranglehold on our water, and a cleaner, fairer sector for everyone.

I welcome the news of a settlement being reached between Vodafone and the 62 former franchisees, one of whom is my constituent.

These small business owners fought for years to have their voices heard after describing devastating financial and emotional consequences, including enormous personal debts and fears of losing their homes and life savings. I know they are relieved and I hope this provides them with some closure. 

Going forward, we need much stronger regulation to reset the balance of power and ensure that franchisees are treated fairly.

I'm grateful for the invitation to visit the Shelter Sheffield creative writing group and speak with participants about their experiences. Creative spaces like these are so important in bringing people together, building confidence and giving people a voice.

And of course, these life-changing sessions wouldn't exist without the dedication of volunteers!

It was a pleasure to attend the Jamaican Independence Day celebration in Upperthorpe and see the community come together to celebrate Jamaican culture, heritage and community spirit. A huge thank you to all the volunteers and organisers whose hard work made such a great event possible

I’m so very sorry to hear of Vicky Seddon’s passing. Vicky was a wonderful person who did so much to support me since I became MP for Sheffield Central. She was a passionate campaigner for PR and for making Sheffield a more democratic city.

I always found her thoughtful, kind and generous, and I’m truly grateful for the time, encouragement and friendship she gave me. She cared deeply about Sheffield and about making our city a fairer and more democratic place.

She will be deeply missed. My heartfelt condolences to her family, friends and everyone who had the privilege of knowing and working with her.

Watt and Sorenson

Watt & Sorenson and Tixerbon continue to pressure leaseholders in Sheffield Central. I spoke to the minister asking for urgent action on the matter.

I have already reported the companies to the Trading Standards and the Leasehold Advisory Service, and Sheffield City Councillors are also aware of the issue. I am currently seeking a legal basis for referral to the Property Ombudsman.

Leaseholders in Sheffield deserve fair treatment. I will continue to work with the Minister until this is resolved.

Colin and Jack at Feast in the town centre have been a staple of my working life since before I became an MP, offering great coffee with welcoming, cheerful service whenever I go in.

They told me that small businesses like theirs are struggling as bills get higher and higher. Sheffield is famous for its support of independent business. I was pleased to hear the Prime Minister's answer and look forward to ensuring that support is rewarded.

At the Foreign Affairs Committee I asked what the UK can do to ensure women are represented in Syria's transitional government.

As penholder on Women, Peace and Security at the UN Security Council, the UK has both the standing and the responsibility to press this case.

Equality, justice, fairness. These things only exist when all people are represented.
