Boxcar Imagination

Mrs. Kelly's preschool class was challenged to think outside the box to find a creative way to play with a pile of cardboard boxes. They created a train, painting each car uniquely and enjoying the beautiful weather as they rolled down the tracks.
Second Grade Pupils Focus on Learning

The second grade is studying the human body, and most recently they learned about how the eyes see an object. Part of the study was creating a foldable model of the eye that highlights the vision process. The models also came in handy to remind Mrs. Carty that they were keeping an eye on her!
Third Grade Channels Energy into Learning

Third grade has started a new chapter on electricity. Students learned about static electricity and saw how opposite electric charges on our hair and the balloon attract. After learning about insulators and conductors, they tested various materials (paper clips, rubber bands, aluminum foil, popsicle sticks) to see which objects allowed electricity to flow through to light a lightbulb in a circuit.
Student Behavior Was Lights Out

Mrs. Finley's third-grade class was rewarded with flashlight reading during DEAR time. This special treat was given after the class earned compliments for going above and beyond in offering kindness and being respectful.
Art Students Inspired by Americana Landscapes

Here are some of the art projects the grammar students did recently, modeling the work of American artist, Grant Wood. He is a master artist from Iowa, known for his depictions of rural American Midwest Life, most notably, the painting, American Gothic. To learn more about Grant Wood and his work, click here.
Spanish Class Celebrates Dia de Reyes

January 6th is King's Day - Día de Reyes - in Spain and many other Spanish-speaking countries. January 6th, also known as Epiphany, is considered by tradition to be the day that the wise men brought baby Jesus their gifts. January 6th is a big celebration. It is a national holiday and, in many countries, this is the day that the "wise men" deliver gifts to children. In many Spanish-speaking countries, children will shine their shoes, leave out straw (or grass) and water for the wise men's camels, and go to sleep anticipating the arrival of the wise men.

A Roscón de Reyes (as it is called in Spain, or Rosca de Reyes in many Latin American countries, and King Cake in the US) is a traditional dessert eaten on January 6th. Mrs. Eckart made one and hid a figurine of baby Jesus inside. Traditionally, the person who finds the figurine is crowned the king or queen of Christmas. In Spain, that person will also purchase the Roscón de Reyes the following year. Annalea Caballero found baby Jesus and is this year's Queen of Christmas.

SRCS Senior Goes to College for Free!

Senior Gavin Confessore will be paid to go to college! Recently, Gavin was awarded several scholarships from Florida Atlantic University, Palm Beach Atlantic University, and Florida Polytechnic University. He was also recognized by the College Board as a First-Generation Student --the first in his family to continue with higher education.

To get to this point, Gavin has taken many rigorous courses and multiple college admissions tests. His hard work was worth it, and Gavin has officially been offered the Presidential Scholarship from Florida Atlantic University, which is a full-ride scholarship. Combining the Presidential Scholarship with grants awarded through the FAFSA and a full Bright Futures scholarship gives Gavin a chance to start college with zero cost. Way to go, Gavin!
