Dear Slicers,
You may have noticed the comment section of the daily calls for slice of life stories has looked a little different for the past couple of days. You may have noticed that some Slicers’ slice of life stories have been posting as they always have. However, there are many Slicers whose teasers and links are showing up with an embedded preview beneath the teaser. This is due to the fact that there was a change made to the core WordPress software yesterday.
After spending a couple of hours working with WordPress tech support, I have learned there are no plans to disable this change, which is unfortunate since the embedded previews are making it take much longer for the daily call for slice of life stories to load.
The good news is that WordPress’s tech support engineers have discovered a workaround to prevent the URL from turning into an embedded preview. If we could have everyone’s support with making a modification for the way they’re leaving their teasers and permalinks for the remainder of the month (and on Tuesdays year-round), then this will keep the comments section trimmer and easier for everyone to load.
Here’s a peek at what an embedded preview looks like:

I left my comment like this, which is what caused the embedded preview to generate.

The permalink turned into an embedded preview because I hit the enter/return after the period in my teaser.
If I wouldn’t have hit the enter/return key between my teaser and the permalink, then my my comment wouldn’t have generated an embedded preview since the link would have been on the same line as the rest of the text.
To eradicate the embedded preview, I left my comment with a colon between the teaser and the permalink.

You’re welcome to use a different kind of punctuation (e.g., commas, dashes) if you don’t like the idea of using a colon. What I’m asking is that you do not to hit the enter/return key when you leave your teaser and permalink.
Having one or two embedded previews isn’t a big deal. Having lots of them will continue to make the daily calls slow to load. Thank you, in advance, for making this change when you leave comments going forward.

I'm glad we’ve made it to this point in the SOLSC without a tech hiccup. In the past 14 years, we’ve had one other Wordpress-related tech issue. Regardless, please accept my apologies for this mid-challenge inconvenience.
