RMS Spirit Wear Design Competition |
ASB (Associated Student Body) is asking students to submit designs/illustrations to be printed on spirit wear. This is a great opportunity for students to showcase their artistic abilities and to leave their mark on RMS Spirit Wear. The three most popular designs/illustrations will be added to this year's Spirit Wear catalog. ASB has sent your students the guidelines and requirements. PTSA Volunteer Spotlight: Emily Johnson | The Volunteer Spotlight is here to recognize those who volunteer at Redmond Middle School. THANK YOU for your amazing dedication and support. We are a better organization because of you! The RMS PTSA shines the spotlight on: Emily Johnson Emily is the VP of Enrichment and is responsible for keeping the student enrichment programs such as Math Club, Science Team and Spelling Bee, running smoothly! She wants RMS students have the opportunity to stretch their creative and academic muscles outside of school and makes sure parent volunteers have everything they need to run a successful program. The PTSA Board serves the RMS school community, providing programs, support, and services that might otherwise not be available to the students, families and staff in our area. We believe a great school experience for all students begins with strong partnerships and that all begins with you! | Five RMS teams competed in the Science Olympiad Regionals event this month, scoring 8 Gold, 7 Silver, and 5 Bronze medals among the members! In addition, Redmond Mars team won the trophy for first place in the Northwest Region. Looking forward, two of our teams (the max allowed per school) have qualified to compete in the state level competition in April. Congratulations to the Science Team’s Science Olympiad participants!

Roadmap To Recovery Phase Update Gov. Jay Inslee announced that Healthy Washington: Roadmap to Recovery will be transitioning from a regional approach to a county-by-county evaluation process. Effective March 22, the entire state will enter Phase 3. There is no doubt that programming is an invaluable skill today, as nearly 2/3rds of projected new jobs in STEM are computing-related. No prior programming experience is needed and students will have the opportunity to learn and challenge themselves, regardless of their experience. Classes will be held weekly on Zoom from 4:00-5:00 PM on Wednesdays and will be offered completely cost-free. Are there ways to help the PTSA that don't require a huge time commitment?Answer: YES! There are many ways to help! Many PTSA volunteers, in addition to being wonderful parents, have full-time and part-time jobs outside the home. We encourage volunteerism in any capacity to stay connected with your students, with the school and to help you grow! In the RMS PTSA, volunteer positions come in many different flavors and sizes that are amenable to the many different families that make up our community.First and foremost, parents/guardians do not have to volunteer the entire school year at all! Many PTSA positions are single-event-based. They only happen for a brief period of time or even just a day, once a year. For example, International Night, 8th Grade Celebration, Hearing and Vision Screening, Picture Day, Student Directory etc. will only occur once during the school year. You can limit your volunteer hours for the time the event occurs. In addition, many of these events have groups or committees so you can share the responsibilities among many people.Also, most PTSA positions are completely flexible and really are what you make of it during the year. You decide how much and when you spend time for PTSA. For example, if you become a leader on the board level, you can decide how many fundraising events PTSA will host, or how many parent education events PTSA will have, or how membership drives there will be. Chairperson roles such as Facebook Chair allow you to work on your own time, at your own pace, in your own home!Not convinced yet? "I chose grants because meetings are difficult for me, and I can do it on my own time, and still know I am contributing to the school. Also, many roles in PTSA allow you to get to know the administration a little better, and this one even allows me to get the know the teachers too. "Serving on a financial review committee can take as little as two or three hours, once or twice a school year! PTSA requires three or more members to review our financial documents at mid-year in January and year-end in July."
