WHAT'S IN THE NEWS?

Most news narratives are purposely misleading. Watching and reading news can be a trap or a waste of time.  But remaining ignorant of what is going on is irresponsible.  Here’s how to prioritize: because the rule of law is being deliberately decomposed, Americans need to be able to resist this intelligently by

a)      Knowing the law

b)     Supporting lesser magistrates who actively resist lawlessness in the government

A lesser magistrate is a government official who holds an office or rank that is inferior to a more senior official.  All officials have sworn duties to defend the higher law from threats, even if the threat comes from their bosses.  Keep an eye on executive violations of the law and speak up about illegal executive orders from the president, your governor, or your local mayor.  Make sure your local law enforcement leadership knows why these are wrong, and where they have duties to pronounce those edicts as invalid or illegal.

But don’t obsess on news.  Just keep an eye and ear open as you invest your time in rebuilding the rule of just and constitutional law, the free market, and the churches of your local community.

TRENDS TO BE AWARE OF

1.      Contrition in the hearts of American people, or the lack thereof. This will largely determine the course of 2021.

2.      The silencing of dissidents on social media, and the reasons given for this.

3.      The rise of alternative free speech platforms, which should not be used for escapism or wishful thinking.

4.      Plans for the extermination of dissidents, and the language which would justify this.

5.      Deliberate policies of surrender to China and Iran, both of whom have vowed to conquer the US.

WHAT I AM READING

Lex Rex by Samuel Rutherford, published in 1644.  The title signifies that the Law is King, and Kings don’t have a divine right to create law or make up any law which suits their will.  The book defends the rule of law and the lawfulness of defensive wars (including pre-emptive wars) and advocates limited government and constitutionalism in politics.

QUOTES I AM THINKING ABOUT

I am among those who believe that our Western civilization is on its way to perishing. It has many commendable qualities, most of which it has borrowed from the Christian ethic, but it lacks the element of moral wisdom that would give it permanence. Future historians will record that we of the twentieth century had intelligence enough to create a great civilization but not the moral wisdom to preserve it.

— Aiden Wilson Tozer

What is called Western Civilization is in an advanced state of decomposition, and another Dark Ages will soon be upon us, if, indeed, it has not already begun. With the Media, especially television, governing all our lives, as they indubitably do, it is easily imaginable that this might happen without our noticing… by accustoming us to the gradual deterioration of our values.

— Malcom Muggeridge

This is the last and most astounding fact about [Christianity]; that its enemies will use any weapon against it, the swords that cut their own fingers, and the firebrands that burn their own homes. Men who begin to fight the Church for the sake of freedom and humanity end by flinging away freedom and humanity if only they may fight the Church.

— GK Chesterton

What if it is profoundly unconstitutional for a state legislature to give its law-making powers to the state’s governor? What if, when that happens, all the governors’ edicts based on that attempted passage of power are null and void? What if we simply behave in a manner that shows we understand that these edicts are unlawful?

What if we ignore the government at our peril? What if when government tramples our rights, we alter or abolish it? What if the time to do that is coming? What if that time is here? What if — as Jefferson wrote — when the people fear the government there is tyranny? What if when the government fears the people, there is liberty?
